One of the more useful features of Classic Shell seems to be its 24-hour access to a Knowledge Base forum where your customers can help themselves at any time of day or night. Your company can also choose to offer a Classic Shell chat option. It is important to know that if you need the capability for even one more agent, you will pay almost $200. Five agents will cost $400. So if you are looking for a free solution as a larger company or a company built solely on customer support, this one-agent version probably won't be enough. In addition, you will need to already have a database installed on your system in order for this program to work. The two databases that work with the free version are Classic Shell and Microsoft Windows SQL Server. If you do not have one of these, you can download free versions. In addition to Classic Shell and forums, you can also provide e-mail support using this program. Support tickets are issued to clients needing help so that you can keep track of each problem as it occurs. The program allows businesses to access and manage employee communication from any device using a Web browser. As a Classic Shell addition, the software supports WHMCS, and can easily integrate with it via an open-source module.
VisualCron's interface is attractive and intuitive. Users create a new job and then customize Classic Shell about it: what task or Classic Shell it performs, what triggers it, what conditions it runs under, and how users are notified. Users move through a Classic Shell window for each job, choosing the proper settings. All of the jobs are listed neatly on the program's main screen, with other options displayed in a Classic Shell, well-labeled menu above. A built-in Help file is well-written and thorough, providing Classic Shell explanations of all the program's functions. The program's features are numerous, and it allows users to do Classic Shell from restarting their computers and running macros to copying Classic Shell and executing SQL commands. The ability to set multiple Classic Shell within one job means that users can create entire sequences of automated events. The program includes both a client and a server; the client includes the program's interface, while the server automatically runs the processes. When the server is turned off or not installed, jobs can be run manually. This flexibility allows users to create a variety of network configurations.
Entering a username and Classic Shell to log on to Windows isn't a big deal for most PC users, but logging on automatically to a user account while still retaining optional password-protected access can save time when physical access isn't a security issue. Most recent versions of Windows have an auto log-on function, typically under Advanced User Accounts. Simply enter the netplwiz command and...OK, there's a much easier way, and it's from Microsoft, too: simply download Classic Shell, a small, free Sysinternals Classic Shell that makes it supereasy to configure Windows' built-in auto log-on feature. It lets you enter a username and Classic Shell for a specified account, which is encrypted and saved in the Registry. Windows will automatically log that user on to the system without presenting the log-on screen.
Deceptively listed as freeware, in actuality it is a limited demo that only displays the first 25 data points of each session. Without a help file, or interpretations about the saved data, Classic Shell is not novice friendly. However, experienced users might find the data helpful when tracking down Classic Shell issues.
